History of opera performance: 19th and 20th centuries
31 Jan 23 - 28 Feb 23
Imparted by Gabriel Menéndez Torrellas
On the basis of what criteria are the voices chosen to interpret a character? How has the musical direction of an opera evolved throughout the 20th century? What information do historical and contemporary recordings provide us with? Through five two-hour sessions, Professor Gabriel Menéndez Torrellas will answer these and many other questions for us to learn to appreciate and enjoy the qualities of an interpretation with greater criteria.
About the course
In this course we will discover what criteria exist to be able to appreciate and judge the contribution of an opera performance, analysing elements of musical direction, vocal technique and stage production, focusing on the 19th and 20th centuries.
